Privacy Policy

This privacy policy sets out the data I collect from you when you use this site and how I store and process it. The policy may change from time to time, and you can see any changes by checking back here. The last update to this policy occurred on 30 January 2024.

Who I Am

My full name is James David Stinson and my website address is https://jamiestinson.com. You can contact me about any aspect of this policy at [email protected].

Cookies

If you leave a comment on this site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. This is for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

This site also uses cookies to provide anonymous user data to Google Analytics so that I can improve my services. These cookies will not be stored on your device unless you consent to them. For more information and to change cookie consent settings, see my cookie policy.

Other Data Collection

When visitors leave comments on blog articles, I collect the data shown in the comments form for the purpose of displaying the comment, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

I rely on the lawful basis for data processing under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR (my legitimate interest to run a blog) to collect the above information. I do not pass your data on to any third parties with the one exception of Antispam Bee by Pluginkollektiv: an anti-spam service that I use for blog comments. You can find out more about how Pluginkollektiv processes your data here.

Data Retention

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR, you have the following rights over your data:

  • The right to access personal data held about you (the right of subject access)
  • The right to be informed about how and why your data is used (detailed in this policy)
  • The rights to have your data rectified, erased or restricted (allowing me to store your data but not use it in any way)
  • The right to object (to the processing of your personal data)
  • The right to portability of your data (the right to receive personal data you have provided to me in a structured, commonly used and machine readable format)
  • The right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing (I do not make any decisions based on automated processing)

You can submit a request pertaining to any of the above rights or withdraw consent for the processing of your data at any time by contacting me at [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In the UK, you can send complaints to the Information Commissioner’s Office by visiting https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ or calling 0303 123 1113.

Data Sharing

Other than Pluginkollektiv (mentioned above), I do not share your personal data with any third parties. Your data may be stored on servers located outside the UK, but the providers of any such servers do not have access to your data.
